The CX has a lot more going for it than its nontoxic composition. A solid copper projectile is a lot tougher than the traditional lead core/copper jacket design, which is why the bullet reliably retains at least 95% of its weight after impact – the reason why it conserves the momentum it needs to punch a deep hole into game. The CX’s hollow point nose cavity runs deep and splays out wide, thus maximizing wound column diameter and energy transfer.
Hornady’s Superformance label 5.56 cartridge is loaded with the propellant it needs to push that 55 grain projectile to a velocity of 3,175 fps out of a 24” barrel. The 0.270 G1 BC projectile will strike with over 1,000 ft lbs of energy within 86 yards, which gives you a serviceable effective range for bagging whitetail.
